Hi Master of plaster I am a friend of Kevin and John at Mirage studios and I had asked them a question and they would not answer it (Ha,Ha, )they said to go on the forum if I had any questions and ask the master of plaster well here it goes -I had just purchased mop base coat and Tan Caenstone and wanted to know if I could mix them together to get a lighter color and if so do I still need to put a first coat of mop base.

Thanks, LM

Yes you still need to apply a coat of base first.
Yes you can add the base to the caenstone to get a lighter color, another thing you can try is putting a small amount of basecoat on your hawk when you apply it. It will blend in as you work the material on the wall, but will leave lighter spots making it look even more natural.
Hope this helps
